Bourke Aboriginal Health Service (BAHS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service that provides primary health care services initiated and operated by the local Aboriginal community to deliver holistic, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate health care. 

BAHS provides a wide range of clinical services and support programs with a focus on Chronic Disease, Primary Health Care,  Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Dental, Drug and Alcohol, and Mental Health related issues. They respect, encourage and help to strengthen the heritage and cultural values of their clients and the broader community, and are committed to communicating in a way that empowers their clients to make informed decisions about their needs.

About the Opportunity

Bourke Aboriginal Health Service now has a new opportunity for a full-time Dietitian to join their team in Bourke, NSW.

Reporting to the Health Manager, this role will see you working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver holistic, healthy lifestyle services to the Bourke community as part of the Chronic Disease, and Healthy for Life programsYou will also ensure the effective communication of the organisation's vision and strategies. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating menus and food plans to meet each individual clients’ dietary and health requirements;
  • Contributing towards relevant policy and strategy development;
  • Providing resource information, support advocacy and referrals; and
  • Promoting healthy lifestyles, raising awareness of relationship between food and general wellbeing, disease, disability, and other health-related issues.

About You

To be successful in this role you will be a tertiary qualified Dietitian, with strong communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. 

Whilst relevant practical experience will be highly regarded, BAHS is open to recent graduates who are willing and eager to grow their skills with the organisation.

Similarly, while a background living or working in remote areas or with Aboriginal communities would be an advantage, it is not essential, provided you have a genuine interest in this field and are passionate about improving health outcomes.

Due to the nature of the role, you must be confident and capable of communicating and working with people from a variety of backgrounds, with diverse value systems, cultural differences and needs. You will be a personable and genuinely friendly individual, able to work with members of the community to support their goals and achieve optimal outcomes for clients.
